Blackheads and Acne

Blackheads are formed when oil collects and harden in the pores of the skin. Oily skin not only attracts the dirt but also continually sheds the dead cells. Dirt, oil, sweat and stale makeup tend to clog and block the pores. These pores are exposed to the dirt and air; hence, they turn black and are called the blackheads.

Owing to blackheads the pores get blocked and oil glands get infected resulting
in pimples. If the infection progresses, it ruptures the mechanism of oil glands and attacks the inner layer of the skin giving way to an acne prone condition.

  • When you have blackheads wash the face quite often, say 4 to 5 times in a day, with water.
  • Never try to prick the pimples, because doing so infects the surrounding area and leaves the scar behind, which in turn results in spots.
  • Avoid foods which cause constipation and other disorders of the stomach.
  • Boil 50gm of brooklime leaves/stems in 500 ml of distilled water. Keep the mixture for 2hrs and strain it. Mix half teaspoon of sodium benzoate in the mixture and apply on the affected parts.

Apart from this you can also use following “Mint face pack” to cure spots left behind by blackheads and acne.

Mint Face Pack
  • Yoghurt                 1 tbsp
  • Multani mitti          1 tbsp
  • Mint powder          1 tsp
Soak multani mitti in yoghurt for half an hour, then mix mint powder in it. Mix all the ingredients well. Apply the paste on the face. Leave it to dry and wash off with lukewarm water followed by a cold water rinse.
