Role
of foundation
Foundation
cream or lotion plays an important role in giving a smooth look to the face. It
is applied on the facial skin as a base of make up so as to heighten the glow on
the skin. The correct use of foundation makes your face attractive. Foundation is
applied before make up. First clean your face with deep cleansing milk. Foundation
is not only the base of make-up; it is also the protecting agent of the skin as
well as an effective medium to hide pimples, shadows and other spots. If you
have a dry skin, choose lanolin mixed foundation cream. For oily skin, cake
foundation is good. Apply foundation according to the shape and the structure
of your face as explained below:
Shape
of your face Application
of foundation
Round
face -Use a dark shade
of foundation.
Square
face -Use a dark shade
of foundation over the jaw & Chin.
Diamond
Shaped -Use a dark shade of
foundation.
Spots
under eyes -Hide under a
coating of light foundation.
Broad
nose -Apply a dark
shade on nose to make it look thinner.
Double
chin -Apply dark
foundation on its underneath part.
Raised
Cheek bone -Apply dark shade
below the cheek bone.
How
to apply foundation
- Shake the foundation to make sure the ingredients are evenly blended.
- Take a small quantity in the left palm and apply on the face with fingers of the right hand.
- Dot a little foundation over forehead, nose, cheeks, chin and neck (otherwise the neck will appear darker than the face).
- Foundation is applied with an upward motion from the chin onwards with fingertips.
- If the skin is too dry, apply glycerine with a cotton swab before applying foundation.
- If your skin is too oily, use astringent lotion mixed with a few drops of rose water or lemon juice.
- Cleanse your eyebrows and eyelashes to remove any extra foundation sticking on them.
- In case of blemishes on the skin, hide with an extra dabbing of foundation.
How
to apply cream
Often,
women apply cream on their face in large quantity without realising that they
are simply wasting it. Cream keeps the skin beautiful and healthy. It covers
skin with its oily film preventing the cells from developing dryness. Before applying
cream, clean your face with the cleanser to remove dirt from the skin and open
its pores.
- To apply cream correctly, take it on your fingers, apply it and massage slowly upwards to the middle portion of your face.
- Now apply the cream on the middle of the forehead and massage from the inward corners of the eyebrows and outwards.
- Now apply cream on the upper lip and move towards the cheeks.
- Apply cream below the lower lip and move down till you reach below the chin.
How
to apply powder
Powder
is an effective beauty aid to make the skin look soft and attractive. It is available
in two forms, cake and powder. Choose a shade which goes with your skin,
otherwise the skin of your face will look blotchy. Do not forget to use powder
on your neck. Dust off extra powder with a cotton wool pad.
How
to make the eyes beautiful
Applying
foundation, eye shadow, mascara, eyebrow pencil and eyeliner are various steps
for making your eyes beautiful. Make sure that the foundation covers the
eyelids completely, and then powder over this to give a matt surface to work
on.
- Apply the eyelid shadow first in light strokes, then crease shadow and finally apply shadow on the brow bone. Eye shadow is used on eyelids between eyebrow and eyelashes and applied with fingers.
- Now apply mascara very carefully, in upward strokes on top lashes and in downward strokes on the bottom ones. Apply one coat, allow it to dry, and then apply a second coat. For a thick, soft look without fibres, powder between each coat. Finally, separate the lashes with a dry brush for a natural, feathery look.
- Apply the eyebrow pencil lightly to give a natural curve to the brows. Tweeze away any hair, which spoil the line, but below the brow only.
- Now apply eyeliner. Choose a shadow which is close to that of the shadow on your lid and make a soft, smudgy line, not a hard one.
- Eyes can be made to appear larger or smaller through the use of eye shadows. Round eyes can be made to look longer by extending the eye shadow beyond the outer corner of the eyes. Small eyes can be made to appear larger by extending the shadow slightly above, beyond and below the eyes. For deep sunken eyes, use very little shadow on lids, nearest the temples and leave untouched the part next to the nose and inner corners of the eyes.
How
to apply lip colour
- Examine the texture of your lips. If they are hard, soften with lip balm or moisturizer.
- Apply a thin film of creamy foundation over the whole of the lip area and powder lightly.
- First draw in the outline of your lips with a well filled brush or lip lining pencil.
- Now fill in the colour very carefully. Two colours used separately or blended give a good result.
- If lip colours tend to smudge into the surrounding skin, blot with a tissue and re apply.
- Apply clear or toning lip gloss for a shiny look.
